Aspose.PSD FOSS for .NET — Frequently Asked Questions
Licensing & Open Source
What is the licensing model?
Aspose.PSD FOSS for .NET is MIT licensed. You can use, modify, and redistribute it under the terms of the MIT license.
Can I use it in commercial products?
Yes. The MIT license permits commercial use, modification, and redistribution without royalties.
Installation & Requirements
How do I install Aspose.PSD FOSS for .NET?
git clone https://github.com/aspose-psd-foss/Aspose.PSD-FOSS-for-.NET.git
cd Aspose.PSD-FOSS-for-.NET
dotnet buildAre there any native dependencies?
No. The library is managed .NET code with no native or third-party package dependencies declared in its project file.
Format Support
Which formats can Aspose.PSD FOSS for .NET read and write?
It loads and saves PSD and PSB (Photoshop large document) files. Image.Load
and PsdImage.Load open a document from a file path or stream; PsdImage.Save
writes it back to PSD/PSB.
Does it render or export pixel data to other image formats?
No. This FOSS build loads and edits PSD/PSB document structure and layer metadata — it does not rasterize or export to other raster formats like PNG or JPEG.
API Usage
What is the main entry-point class?
PsdImage (a subclass of Image). Load a document with PsdImage.Load, then
read its Layers collection and header properties.
How do I inspect a document’s layers?
Read the Layers property on a loaded PsdImage to get its collection of
Layer objects. Each Layer exposes metadata such as name, visibility,
opacity, clipping, blend mode, and bounds.
Can I modify layer metadata?
Yes — Layer exposes a working setter for several properties (for example,
visibility and name can be changed), and PsdImage.Layers itself has a
working setter for replacing the collection. Some specific properties are not
supported in this FOSS build — see Known Limitations below.
How do I save changes back to a file?
Call PsdImage.Save with a destination path or stream after making your
changes.
Known Limitations
What is not supported in this FOSS build?
Several property setters throw NotSupportedException rather than applying
the change: PsdImage.ActiveLayer, PsdImage.ImageResources,
PsdImage.GlobalLayerResources, and PsdImage.HasTransparencyData
setters; Layer.ChannelInformation, Layer.LayerMaskData, and
Layer.LayerBlendingRangesData setters. Each throws with a clear FOSS-specific
message (for example, “Changing the active layer is not supported by this
FOSS build.”) so the limitation is discoverable at runtime.
Will these limitations be removed in a future version?
Not documented. Check the project’s release notes for updates.
